Motherwell Football Club Heritage Trust is on the brink of a big decision: selecting a new logo to represent the Trust and its mission to preserve and celebrate the club’s history. We’ve shortlisted four designs, each with its own unique story, and we’re calling on fans to help us choose. Here’s a breakdown of the options:
Design 1: The One Motherwell Theme
This design mirrors the current Motherwell FC crest and aligns with other club-affiliated groups like the Community Trust, Former Players Club, and Disabled Supporters Association. It emphasizes unity across the entire Motherwell community, creating a shared identity under the ‘One Motherwell’ banner. If you appreciate cohesion and consistency, this design is a strong contender.
Design 2: Inspired by Bobby Ancell’s Blazer Badge
A nod to the past, this modernised version of Bobby Ancell’s original blazer badge design incorporates claret and amber with symbolic elements: white steelworks, green fir trees, and a sky-blue background. It reflects the club’s industrial roots and natural surroundings. Fans who love designs steeped in history and tradition may find this particularly appealing.
Design 3: Calligraphic Script – A Nod to Willie Pettigrew
This design takes inspiration from the calligraphic “MFC” script that adorned shirts in the 1970s and early 1980s. For many fans, this style immediately recalls the golden era of hotshot goalscorer Willie Pettigrew. The script was also revived for the club’s 125th anniversary kit in 2011, reinforcing its timeless appeal, though it was never worn in a competitive game. If this era brings back fond memories and you value a sleek, historical look, this could be your top choice.
Design 4: Retro Steel Pin Badge
Designed by Willie Kay, this concept draws on the aesthetics of a classic steel “pin badge.” It reflects Motherwell’s industrial heritage and evokes a sense of pride in the town’s working-class roots. The retro feel makes it ideal for those who appreciate a vintage look that ties in with the Trust’s mission to preserve and celebrate the club’s amazing history.
